Meeting report

The participants in the meeting arrived during Sunday afternoon, excepting for the Turkish team, that arrived on the very early Monday morning. During the welcome process, the local team did their best to give logistical support to the small problems that happened during the hotel check-in.

On Monday morning, all the participants met in a park called “Ses Estacions”, where the six previously prepared international groups were brought together and started with ice-breaking activities, coats of arms, as an example, among others.

Then, all the groups moved to the City Hall, where the Councilor of Youth received the participants on behalf of the city.

Later, the group arrived to IES Son Rullan, where they had a guided tour of the school and had lunch. After lunch, there was a PowerPoint presentation on sustainable tourism in Mallorca. They participated in a^ scavenger hunt, an activity thought in order they were able to learn some Palma routes. This way, they were shown interesting cultural aspects of the town.

On the second day and according to the program, the whole group participated in an excursion by the Tramuntana Mountains. The route of the Archduke was the chosen one. It started in Valldemossa and also finished there,  visiting one of the most remarkable villages in Mallorca.

On the third day, all the participating groups moved to a beach area, where IES Son Rullan students were waiting for them to take part in a combination of beach games. Later, the group could enjoy of some free time and, then, some of the  groups visited the Aquarium, while some others practised water sports, such as paddle surf and canoeing.

On the fourth day, an archeology activity on the University Campus in the UIB (Balearic Islands University) was developed. In this occasion, the activity was led by a group of students of History. For the activity, the groups combined research activities with the manufacture of old rocket launchers: the slin g shot, a weapon that ancient Majorcan inhabitants used to use.

In the meanwhile, the coordinators of the different countries held a meeting to clarify the points of the next one in Rendsburg as well as other logistical aspects.

The fifth day was fully spent at IES Son Rullan. There, the groups were divided into two and each one used a different room where they had access to computers. Several productions were made on the methodologies used on the previous days. These productions were reflected in applications such as PowerPoint, a  Prezi, a photo collage, a video and a comic. All the students learned the techniques of realization as well as the different methodologies. The products were shared on the project website.

To end the meeting in the best way, the different groups received precise instructions on how to organize themselves as well as the recipe of a world wide spread typical Spanish dish: the paella. Under the supervision of expert chefs, six large paellas were prepared in the open air in order to be the lunch for seventy people.

After the meal, the farewell moment came and with it plenty of scenes of sadness starred for most of the young participants.

One day later, the members of the different groups arrived to their countries with the joy of having shared knowledges and feelings with people of other countries, and the satisfaction of having achieved it by speaking an practising English, their common language.
